Summary

In Chapter 15, the lecture is interrupted by the local sheriff, who says that the lecture is breaking Church laws by disseminating knowledge about pre-apocalyptic times. The sheriff arrests Shadwell and tells everyone else to leave. Fairfax and Sarah linger in order to look at the machines that Shadwell used in his presentation. Fairfax then notices that Hancock is present. Fairfax and Sarah quickly deduce that Hancock was likely the person who had followed them to Axford, although Hancock denies the allegation and says that he was simply curious in the lecture. Fairfax, Sarah, and Hancock confer in Hancock’s private office in Axford. Fairfax and Sarah share all of their knowledge about Shadwell, Lacy, and the pre-apocalyptic era.
