Cal’s Cottage

Cal’s cottage is the place where Trey and Cal become acquainted. Trey comes to Cal’s cottage after she has been beaten by her mother because she associates the cottage with safety even though Cal had asked her not to return. Later, Cal is also beaten by Mart’s friends to keep him from asking more questions about Brendan. Cal allows Trey to stay with him until he figures out what happened to Brendan and puts an end to the threats.

Mart’s Cottage

Cal is visiting Mart’s cottage the day after he was beaten when he sees a towel dried stiff with blood under Mart’s table. This towel signifies to Cal that Mart not only knew that Cal was going to get beaten, but he was also involved in what happened.
