Calvin “Cal” John Hooper

Calvin “Cal” John Hooper is the central character in this novel. He has moved to a small village in Western Ireland after a painful divorce and his decision to retire from the Chicago police department. Cal tells Trey he retired because so many people had gotten so angry. An even larger reason that weighed on his decision to quit came when his partner shot at a Black teenager because he believed the teen was reaching for his pocket to get a gun. The teenager was not hit, but Cal was called upon to vouch for his partner.
