Summary

Sophie and the School Master sit in his tower. Sophie has rejected his ring for three weeks, confused about her feelings toward him. The sun continues to weaken because the Storian has not written anything in three weeks because of Sophie's doubts about the School Master. Sophie tries to close the book, but it smacks her in the face and reopens to the end. Sophie silently admits she made a mistake choosing the School Master over Agatha. Finally, she admits she knows nothing about him and tells him she is in control because the Storian is waiting for her choice, not his.
