Summary

Chapter 5

Joe and his father spend the day planting the flower and vegetable gardens Geraldine would have done if she were not locked in her room. At lunch, Joe takes his mother a sandwich and tries to talk to him about the file she had said she was going to get the day of her attack. Geraldine refuses to speak to Joe. Later, Basil brings over the FBI agent investigating the attack so that Joe can give him the gas can. Joe describes how he found the gas can.

Joe runs off to Angus’s after growing angry with his father about the investigation. Angus is on his way to church. Joe remembers what his uncle said about the new priest, so he decides to go along. After Angus goes to confession, he leaves Joe on the playground to go look for Cappy...
