Raul Endymion

Born to a nomadic tribe on the frontiers of Hyperion, Raul Endymion was made to memorize the Cantos, the epic poem written by Martin Silenus about the Hyperion pilgrimage and the fall of the Hegemony three hundred years before, by his grandmother. After serving a tour in the army, fighting insurrection on his home planet, Raul became a field guide for rich off world hunters. After a lethal altercation with one his arrogant clients, Raul is sentenced to death, and is urged to join the Church and take on the cruciform so that the death sentence will not mean the end of his life. Raul is rescued from captivity by Martin Silenus, following signs told to him three hundred years before by his young adopted niece Aenea, who is soon to return and has prophesized that Raul will be in integral part of her mission.
