Chapters 3-4 Summary

Chapter 3

Grand Inquisitor Mustafa and Father Farrell of the Inquisition torture Corporal Bassin Kee for information about why he and Father Captain De Soya allowed Aenea to escape from God's Grove. Kee refuses to talk and is placed again in cryonic stasis where he has been incarcerated for four years.

De Soya arrives in Pacem, the home world of the Church, and is told that certain irregularities had been discovered in the prosecution of his court martial, and that he his record had been expunged. He is to be given command of a new ship, also called the Raphael. De Soya requests that his old crew be reassigned to him, and is told that Corporal Bassin Kee died in the line of duty two years ago.
