Perspective

The Revenge of the Cockroach People is written in the first person point of view with the narrator being the author, Oscar Zeta Acosta. Acosta is the famous Buffalo Zeta Brown, the Chicano lawyer, who the book is about. The author basically tells the story of this tumultuous three year period in his life. The use of the first person makes the book more real for the reader since it seems to be Brown that is talking to them. He tells of the events as they happened and what the reactions of the various people were. Even though Brown didn't want to work as a lawyer, he did for his three years with the Chicano Militants, defending them against whatever charges they faced, and he made it clear throughout the book that he wanted to be writing and not spending his time in a courtroom.
