Summary

In Chapter 6: “Many Partings,” the Company sets out for Rivendell. Frodo says he first wants to go to Rivendell and see Bilbo once more. On the way, they stop at Rohan and say goodbye to Eomer.

In Isengard, they meet Treebeard, who has released Saruman. Moving onward, they come to Saruman, and Wormtongue is with him. The deposed Saruman is bitter, but powerless. After a few more days, Galadriel and Celeborn turn east and return home. The rest of the travelers reach Rivendell and the House of Elrond. Bilbo gives Frodo three books, asking Frodo to finish editing them. Elrond takes Frodo aside and says he himself will soon visit the Shire and bring Bilbo with him.
