Epilogue Summary and Analysis

The next information on the real Martin Guerre is reported from the year 1563. Martin's uncle, Pierre and Martin Guerre are again cooperating and living in peace in Artigat. Pierre Guerre involves himself in another court case, showing his bent for legal controversy. This one may have involved Pierre trying to recover lands that Arnaud/Martin had sold from the family estate. Martin Guerre has two more children with Bertrande, although his son Sanxi dies. Martin outlives Bertrande and has another son with a second wife.

Martin and Bertrande are living in peaceful marriage when the story is picked up again in 1563. They both need each other. Martin needs Bertrande's help due to his being lame and she needs him for a husband.
