Summary

Laure is dreaming. She thinks that she’s still a child, playing in a garden. In her dream, she thinks that as this child she has just had a nightmare about being 30 years old. She thinks about how in this “dream” she married someone named Xavier, a photojournalist. Unfortunately, this is really what has happened to her. The dream unfolds, showing that one day, Laure had gotten a call from the foreign ministry, telling her that Xavier had passed away while taking photos during the Iraq war. She becomes troubled, but outwardly she seems to be resting peacefully.

Meanwhile, out on the hospital ward floor, Laure can hear nurses discussing a television show, but she shuts the noises out and retreats back into her mind, where Xavier has joined her in the garden. In...
