Summary

The first day of her second sobriety, Jamison crashes her friend's car into a concrete wall on the way to work. Later, this comes to feel like a good metaphor for AA: going to work, showing up, calling your friend, telling them what happened, and telling them you'll fix. Sobriety is showing up and getting it done. At first when Jamison returns to AA meetings, she is nervous about seeing the same people, since Iowa City is a small town. She is afraid of that they will think of her for leaving. But everyone is supportive and happy to see her. They are just glad she is back.

Like before, Jamison finds great relief in sitting still and listening to the stories of others. During her first meeting back, she listens to a man talk about how he got drunk for the first time...
