Summary

Chapter 48 is titled “Zee.” Zee walks Leon the next morning and begins to make plans. She puts some of the money in a checking account and the rest in a safety deposit box. She goes to her mother's house to discover it has rained on all her possessions that are still in the yard and the city is threatening to fine her unless it is cleaned up. Dorothy has talked to LaReigne who needs help hiring a lawyer. Dorothy is clinging to the idea that LaReigne is innocent and the police are wrong to charge her as an accomplice. She suggests Zee move in and pay rent that Dorothy could use to hire a lawyer.
