Summary

Amy sends Sara a quick note as she only has a single sheet of paper left until John brings more to her. She tells Sara that she had Tom take down a bunch of books and having smelled them, she’s surprised to learn that Sara is correct. Different categories of books smell different from each other. Tom didn’t much understand what Amy was doing, but John did. She shares the value of John’s friendship with Sara and gives her the advice that if she ever decides to marry, to hold out until she finds a man with eyes that are filled with laughter. The note concludes with Amy’s sincerest wishes that Sara would consider coming to visit their little town.
