Summary

Amy writes a letter to Sara, briefly mentioning the book she’d sent and commenting that her books have traveled further than she has.

Sara stands on Hope’s Main Street waiting, a large suitcase leaning against her on the ground and a rucksack lying by her feet, and considers all the reasons Amy could be so late. A woman approaches her and when Sara is unable to reach Amy, she suggests Hank, who is sitting outside the diner, take Amy to Broken Wheel. He throws her bags into the car and they drive through acres and acres of corn while Sara looks out the window for any sign of the town Amy described in her letters to her.
