Summary

In “Chapter 5,” Beth attempted to cash her check at the bank, but she needed a guardian to open an account. She went home and asked Mrs. Wheatley if she could open one, then showed her the check she had one. Mrs. Wheatley was amazed and took Beth to the bank. While Beth was at school, Mrs. Wheatley looked through the chess magazine and found another competition in Cincinnati in a few weeks that offered a $500 prize. She asked Beth if she wanted to go and Beth agreed. Mrs. Wheatley called the school and said Beth had mono. Beth realized that Mrs. Wheatley enjoyed deception and lies.
