Summary

Lynn prescribes Honor quinine to soothe her cough. She suggests whiskey, but Honor refuses due to her religion, as she is a devout Christian. She then checks Mary’s cervix, and breaks her water to encourage quick labor.

Lynn leaves, and Julia studies Honors chart. She realizes she is unmarried as there is no husbands name written, and tells Bridie to not ask about the situation of Honor’s pregnancy.

Honor blames the murder of war for the illness. She prays.

Sister Luke enters to manage the ward; Julia’s shift is over. Luke dismisses Bridie rudely. Julia tells Luke about the patients, and leaves, catching up to Bridie.
