Chapters 16-18 Summary

In Chapter 16, Royce has a hard time figuring out how to convince his wife that he would have chosen her. Although it's frustrating, it's even more frustrating to see her perpetual smile. Royce has invited six additional soldiers to supper, and Morgan and Henry come inside. They talk about hunting down the last of the resistors. Nicolaa hears them, and she knows that one of these resistors is her brother. They taunt her with this knowledge. Royce tells the messengers to give their message and leave.

As he talks, Morgan picks up one of the chess pieces off of the mental and begins to play with it. He gives the message from the king and also says that the king and queen insist that Lady Nicolaa attend a tournament. Morgan says that he intends to crush the soldiers and they won't...
