Chapters 6-10 Summary

In Chapter 6, when Nicolaa wakes up, she still feels groggy. Royce isn't around as she dresses for dinner in clothes left for her by the queen. Nicolaa is already upset when she leaves for dinner, since her husband didn't bother to come get her. She is even more upset when she notices guards outside her door. Then she finds out that they are there to protect her—not to keep her in.

When she enters the hall, she sees Royce. Still frustrated that he didn't come to her, she refuses to go to him when he beckons. They have a minor dispute then eat. Royce helps her eat since she still can't use her hands. Nicolaa notices all the women looking at her husband and doesn't like it. She asks him where he slept the night before and is embarrassed...
