Medical Bag

This medical bag represents the president’s fallibility. Even though he is the president, Duncan is also just a person with the same faults and weaknesses as any other person. Deborah comes to the White House to treat the president so that his relapse will not be as obvious but it is still clear by the fact she carries a medical bag with her that the president is not doing well.

IV

The IV that Deborah insists Duncan continue to wear is a perceived sign of weakness. Duncan makes his Secret Service agent take out the IV even though it is not yet finished because he does not want to meet with leaders from foreign countries, particularly Russia, while appearing to be obviously sick.
