Cavaillon

Cavaillon is a small, fairly rural town in France. After Maja dies and Angelica is born, Philippe relocates himself and Angelica to Cavaillon. During the following years, Philippe frequently rapes Angelica. One day, when Angelica is in her teens, Darius visits and senses the abusive relationship. However, Philippe chases him away. Angelica stops eating, but Philippe has her placed on a feeding tube. Philippe and Angelica both die a few months later due to a house fire.

Tarsus

Tarsus was a city-state in the region of Turkey. In the novel, Tarsus is ruled by a king and queen: Cleon and Dionyza. Pericles originally arrives in Tarsus while fleeing from Kallios. Tarsus was recently affected by a plague, so Pericles hopes that Kallios will not go there. Pericles ingratiates himself to Cleon and Dionyza.
