Summary

Chloe goes into labor on the boat. The ship’s doctor fears that the labor will kill both the child and the mother. The child is born healthy, and Pericles names it Marina. Unfortunately, Chloe appears to have been killed by the labor. A storm begins, and the captain insists that Neptune is angry that there is a dead body aboard. The captain seals Chloe’s body in a coffin and throws it overboard. Pericles is distraught as he watches the coffin float away. The narrative then shifts focus back to the ghosts of Wilkins and Shakespeare. They walk through the streets of London, their path guided by some spectral instinct. At the Thames River, they board a boat that then carries them along. The boat eventually reaches the ocean, whereupon Shakespeare’s ghost suddenly disappears. Adrift at sea, Wilkins sees many strange spirits...
