Summary

In Chapter 53, narrated by Christopher, at home, Christopher found Cole’s baby book. Christopher noticed the changes in Hannah’s writing as she recorded entries. The content of the entries changed as well with Hannah writing about her fear that Janie wanted to hurt Cole. She mentioned Janie’s black eyes. Hannah used the entires to catalog the things Janie had done. Further on, Hannah wrote about Janie’s demon and how she heard Janie talking to the demon. Hannah wrote that she would do whatever it took to protect Cole. In her final entry she wrote: “Today is the day” (302).

Later, Christopher drove to Allison’s house where Dr. Chandler and Piper were waiting to complete a forensic interview with Janie. Janie told Dr. Chandler that Hannah had been giving Janie a special bath when Cole got hurt. Dr. Chandler asked Janie...
