Part 2, Rose: Chapters 3-4 Summary
In chapter 3, Rose stops at a gas station on the road to Habit and asks about St. Elizabeth's. The reaction of the woman at the gas station is rude, reminding Rose of the purpose of St. Elizabeth's. When she arrives, Rose spends a long time reading a sign in the yard that tells the history of the Hotel Louisa. Inside, Rose meets Sister Bernadette, a gentle nun who immediately takes her to the supervisor, Mother Corinne. Mother Corinne questions Rose about her pregnancy. Rose tells her that the father of the baby is dead, died in a car accident, and later learns that all the girls say this. Mother Corinne sends Rose to her room, which she will share with a girl named Angie. Rose sleeps briefly and is crying when she wakes.
