Summary

The children get used to living at Kington in Chapter 3. Most of the time the children play quietly in the garden or in the house, with Roland spending a great deal of time looking over books he cannot yet read. Jill is becoming impatient with the life that she is currently leading spending most of the time around the house. Jill finally tells Sophy that she is leaving Tom and intends to find a job and a small house for herself and the children. Sophy listens to Jill describe Tom's unfaithfulness and constant daydreams, but she tells Jill that she should not come back to Kington to live.
