Summary

Peter and Anna arrived at Anna’s apartment. Peter noticed how exuberant it was because of the large amount of ornate doors and doorways. Peter asked Anna who paid for the apartment, but she did not answer him. Peter then began to arrange Anna’s record cabinet and offered his help assembling the Venetian blinds. The pair then spoke about Peter’s health, and he gave Anna details about his lifestyle. Anna then made a mental note comparing Peter to a “pale pink roast” (48).

Peter explained his motivations concerning his lifestyle. Peter described the fact that his mean-spirited grandfather inspired him to take care of his body, because it is the “dwelling place of the soul” (48). Anna then asked Peter if he had a job.
