Summary

In Chapter 18, even though Cori told Amy when she was pregnant with Joe that she “didn’t want dat baby” (282), Cori helped with Joe more than John did. Now she needs for her and John to provide a united front for Cori when Cori wakes up. At the front desk, Amy learns that Cori is being treated for a traumatic brain injury. The nurse tells Amy she will get a doctor to talk to her but Amy finds Cori’s room and peeks inside. The nurse warns Amy she will just upset herself but when Amy cries she says it is because Cori is breathing. Cori’s head turns toward her mother.
