Summary

In Chapter 31, Adam finally came home. He apologized to Emily and said that the news of his mother’s illness had shaken him. He said he wanted to get married to her, but he could not do it knowing that his mother was sick. He asked her if they could work past all this, but Emily told him to pack his bags and leave her alone. When he left, she cried and felt angry with Pammie.

In Chapter 32, Emily went back to work to get her mind off Adam. Ten days after he cancelled the wedding, Adam showed up at Emily’s work and begged her for five minutes.
