Summary

Chapter 21 begins with Shane telling Josh that Dylan threw gum in his hair and called him insulting names during English class. Though Josh wants to inform Coach Tom about Dylan’s unsportsmanlike behavior, Shane implores him to keep quiet about the incident. Shane then encounters Madeline in the hallway, and they find an empty science lab in which to speak privately. When Shane confirms that the rumors Nico spread are true, Madeline explains that she can no longer date Shane. After baseball practice that day, Josh coordinates a locker-room speech intended to stop bullying amongst his teammates. He ends the address by inviting Shane to prove his sexuality by revealing his genitals. Mortified, Shane runs to the school parking lot where Rebecca waits to drive him home.
