Summary

Chapter 11 begins with Shane and Josh playing video games while discussing Madeline. Shane admits that he likes her but feels apprehensive about dating. The boys laugh hysterically at their mutual lack of experience with females before Shane returns home for the evening. The next morning at school, Madeline invites Shane over for dinner with her family. During their conversation, Shane notices students staring at them. Madeline explains that Nico initiated a horrible rumor about Shane that he should ignore. Despite her advice, Shane cannot suppress his sense of impending doom.

In Chapter 12, Shane remembers his third-grade music teacher, Ms. Cathy, dividing the boys and girls in his class for a vocal performance.
