Summary

In Chapter 6, Shane attends his much-anticipated appointment with Dr. Anne, a physician who specializes in treating transgender children. During their consultation in which Dr. Anne proposes testosterone injections for Shane, Adam arrives unexpectedly and vehemently opposes the treatment. Though Adam knows that Shane needs testosterone to begin transitioning through male puberty and cannot secure a prescription unless both parents consent, he refuses before leaving the appointment. During this visit, Adam appears relieved by the posters of children that adorn the office walls and oblivious to the despair he causes Shane by crushing his fantasies of becoming a strong man with a deep voice.
