Summary

Bob confesses that he had been looking for his sister, Boss, since he was a puppy. He had told Ivan that he was out scrounging for food all day, but he was secretly looking for his sister. He did not want to admit it, even to himself, because he did not want to get hurt if he was unable to find her. When they had been thrown out of the truck, Bob had heard Boss bark. He theorized that the others had died, but from the mud of the field where he had landed he heard Boss barking on the highway. However, the barks had stopped, and he had felt relieved. He did not want to go to her and have no way to fix her if she was injured. He did not want to watch her die.
