Summary

Hester and Rosamond continue their time at Furnivall Manor, and as winter approaches, the days get much shorter and colder. The two of them often go outside to explore the grounds around the house, and at night Hester hears the organ playing even more intensely. One afternoon, Hester decides to leave Rosamond with Dorothy so that she can go to church, as it is too cold to bring Rosamond with her. Hester goes to church with Bessy, another servant, and while they are in church it starts to snow. When they return to the house, Hester goes to retrieve Rosamond from Dorothy, but Dorothy tells her that Rosamond had spent the day with Miss Furnivall and Miss Stark in the drawing room. In the drawing room, Hester cannot find Rosamond, and she begins to panic. Everyone – even Miss Furnivall – begins looking for Rosamond...
