Tirimo

Tirimo is the village in which Essun lived with her husband Jija and their children Uche and Nassun before Jija discovered that his children were orogenes. Lerna also lived in that same village. He was forced to leave his home when Essun destroyed the village after she found that Jija had killed Uche. Lerna was afraid he would be killed by the people of Tirimo because he had been friends with Essun.

Castrima-Under

Castrima is the comm in which Essun, Tonkee, and Hoa live at the time of this novel. The portion of the comm in which the people live is referred to as Castrima-under because it is located underground. The comm has been built inside an underground geode. This comm is destroyed during a war between the people of Castrima and the nearby comm of Rennanis and the stone eaters.
