Summary

Chapter 7 returns to the third person point of view. Nassun and her father travel further south. She hears her father asking someone they meet on the road if she has ever heard of the moon. When Nassun and her father finally reach their destination, he tells her it is a place where she can be cured. She realizes he wants her cured of her orogeny, something she senses is not possible.

Nassun and her father are trying to figure how to get to the city, which appears to be situated on top of a volcano, when Jija is struck in the leg by a barbed bolt. Nassun’s instinct is to kill the bandits who are attacking them, but she also remembers her father’s disgust when she killed the last people who attacked them. Her indecision causes her to freeze.
