Summary

In Chapter 4, we learn that Barlow visited Lovecraft later that year when they met in New York. Lovecraft writes about editing one of Barlow's stories, which he calls "mediocre" (45). The next summer, in 1935, Lovecraft returns to Florida to stay with Barlow and his family again. This time Barlow's father is there, but he and Lovecraft get along well. Lovecraft and Barlow continue their sexual relationship without the knowledge of anyone else, and Barlow's parents ask Lovecraft to stay after the summer to help Barlow with his college applications, an offer Lovecraft accepts. Lovecraft and Barlow make a few trips to a beautiful place called Black Water Creek, where Barlow begins to notice that Lovecraft is not as excited about writing anymore.
