Soldier Home: The Three Day Blow Summary
Nick is visiting Bill, the same character in "The End of Something." As he approaches the house, he notes how strong the wind is blowing, and Bill tells him that it will blow that way for three days. The two friends drink whiskey in front of the fireplace and talk about baseball and books. So far, they had been drinking casually, but decided to get drunk. As the alcohol loosens up conversation, Bill says that Nick did a good thing by breaking it off with Marjorie and that the relationship would never have worked out. Nick stays very, still in some inner turmoil over the break-up, but his mood lightens when he realizes that the relationship is not necessarily finally and completely over.
