Millie

Millie is the main character and central narrator of The New Me. She is a 30-year-old woman living in Chicago and working a temp job at an interior design firm called Lisa Hopper when the novel begins. The plot revolves around Millie receiving an email that she mistakenly believes to be an offer for a permanent position at this firm, and conceiving of an elaborate plan to reinvent her life as a result. Millie's life is in need of reinvention because she has closed herself off, figuratively and literally, from other people (with the exception of one terrible friend named Sarah), she is a chronic heavy drinker, and she is consumed with existential dread because her life lacks meaning.
