Kvothe

Kvothe, also known as Kote and Reshi, is the narrator for most of the novel. The son of Arliden, Kvothe is a member of the Edema Ruh as a young boy when he meets and trains arcany under Abenthy before the troupe is massacred and his parents are killed by Chandrian. Kvothe takes to living on the streets before committing himself to studying at University in order to get to the truth behind the deaths of his parents. There, Kvothe must balance his streetwise nature with the intelligence culture of University life. Kvothe butts heads with Ambrose while befriending Simmon and others, and falling romantically for Denna.
