Summary

In Chapter 41: Friend’s Blood, Wilem shows Kvothe where to find the Medica, which is beside the Archives. Wilem does this because Kvothe will need medical assistance following the lashings. Hundreds of students have gathered for the lashing. Wilem does not attend the lashing, as he cannot stand to see the blood of a friend spilled. The lashes are given. Kvothe grits his teeth and makes no sound. The crowd is stunned as Kvothe walks away.

In Chapter 42: Bloodless, Master Arwyl examines Kvothe’s lash cuts. Arwyl also notes all of the scars and old injuries Kvothe received as a child on the streets. Kvothe also admits having taken certain numbing drugs so that he would not pass out from the pain of the lashing.
