Summary

The next morning, Nashe exits the trailer to find Jack lying there, severely beaten and bloodied. He seems to be nearly dead, but not quite. Murks arrives soon. When he sees Jack, he asks what happened. Nashe says that Jack needs to go to a hospital immediately. Murks fetches his son-in-law, Floyd, and they load Jack into their truck to take him to the hospital. Nashe watches them drive away. Nashe immediately suspects Murks and Floyd of being responsible for Jack’s severe injuries, and he fears that they will kill Jack instead of taking him to a hospital. While Murks and Floyd are gone, Nashe tries to escape through the hole he and Jack dug under the fence, but he finds that it has been completely filled in.
