Summary

In Chapter 16, "Organs for the Dead," Sally begins dismantling the accordion, saying that is the best way she knows to figure out how something works. She finishes, puts it back together making a list of parts, and reads the manual. Luigi is impressed. Luigi offers to let Sally work in his show, keeping everything tidy and his knives sharpened. In exchange, he will provide the items she needs to repair the accordion. Luigi has strict schedules and Sally learns exactly what he expects of her. On Sunday, they do not work in the shop. Luigi goes to the cemetery in Prazeres where he plays the accordion for funerals there before having dinner with Ana and Sally. One Sunday, Luigi arrives at Ana's to find she has a black eye. He tells her she should not let Jorge hit her, but she insists...
