Yemen

Yemen is a country located on the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. Although Mokhtar is American, his parents immigrated to the United States from Yemen. In his mid-20s, Mokhtar became interested in the role of coffee in Yemen’s history, and over the next years, he worked to revive the production and exportation of Yemeni coffee. Yemen’s recent history has unfortunately been characterized by civil war.

San Francisco

San Francisco is the most populous state in Northern California. It is where Mokhtar grew up, and it is the American hub of operations for Mokhtar’s coffee business. While preparing to develop his coffee business, he visited several specialty coffee breweries in San Francisco in order to learn from the experts who worked there. After developing and establishing his coffee exportation business, he was able to successfully export coffee from Yemen to San Francisco.
