Part One, Chapters 15-18 Summary

In Chapter Fifteen, the Maddons decide to leave town. A man named Tom Horn is looking for Hutch on behalf of James B. Collard III, whose granddaughter Hutch impregnated. They decide to take a train to Utah, hoping Hutch's leg will heal on the train so he can ride a horse. Hutch thinks of Brandy to take his mind off his leg. While watching the mirror at the Gingerbread House, Shay briefly inhabits her own body, which is in a ditch on the side of the road. She picks up a bag of kittens and staggers to a house with a dog tied out front. She sees an old man with a white beard.

In Chapter Sixteen, Shay is back in Brandy's body. She develops a sore throat and a fever. Meanwhile May Bell receives a visit...
