Part One, Backward, Chapters 1-5 Summary

The Mirror is the story of two women lost in time, Shay Garrett and Brandy McCabe, granddaughter and grandmother, switch bodies and lives via a mysterious and dangerous mirror known at the wedding mirror. Each must learn to live in completely different times, though in the same places, and with their past or future families. Both women are dissatisfied in their own lives, and through trials and tribulations find happiness, satisfaction, and even love in their new lives.

The Backward gives information on the wedding mirror—its disturbing history of being involved in suicides, madness, and unexplained electrical storms. The mirror came into the possession of the McCabe family when John McCabe purchased it as a wedding gift for his daughter Brandy and brought it to Boulder, Colorado.
