Summary

Edward is content to live with Sarah Ruth and Bryce in Chapter 19. Sarah Ruth continues to get worse as time goes by. By the 6th month she is no longer eating and is coughing up blood. Bryce quits working so that he can spend all of his time with Sarah Ruth. On a September morning, Sarah Ruth dies. The father comes home and he and Bryce get into an argument over Sarah Ruth. The father wins the argument and carries Sarah Ruth out of the house. Bryce picks Edward up off the floor and tells him that they are running away to Memphis as he walks out the door.

In Chapter 20, Bryce tells Edward that they will make money by playing the harmonica and having Edward dance on the street corners of Memphis. Bryce does this, but the people that pass by him...
