Billy is a young man accused of raping and robbing several young women from Ohio State University. He has alternative personalities including David, who is "eight going on nine," and Arthur who is English seems to explain things to the other personalities and is often dominant. Others include Tommy, sixteen and sullen, who refuses to talk at all, Christopher who speaks with an English accent and claims to have a three-year-old sister named Christene, Ragen who is charged with protection, and fourteen-year-old Danny. Billy has already been in trouble for robbery and is on parole at the time of his arrest for the rapes and robberies.
