Summary

Chapter 24 is titled “Lost and Found and Lost.” French is surprised that everyone is on board with retrieving Minerva. Clarence points out that they will have to pack up and move because the rescue attempt is taking place near the cave. Jean is not going with the rescue party because of his missing leg. He reminds French that the government officials will be “locked and loaded” and that they do not see Native Americans as human. French feels a rush of adrenaline when he turns at the edge of the woods to wave to his father one last time. Miig asks French to keep the pouch he wears around his neck (which includes the vial he believes to hold what remains of Isaac). The group has a plan and they take up their places along the road.
