William “Will” Matthew Griffith aka Billy

William Matthew Griffith, most commonly referred to as Will, is Iris’ husband. In the first chapter of the novel, he is portrayed as the perfect husband. Iris describes him as being loving and considerate. Even though they have been married for seven years she is still completely fulfilled by their relationship. On the morning described first in the novel, Will gives Iris a trinity ring as a gift. He says it is a token of their love, fidelity, and friendship. After Will’s “death” Iris learns that there was a good deal about his life before they met that he lied to her about. More troubling, while they were married, Will was embezzling money from the company for which he worked. He planned to change his identity and run away with the money.
