Chapters 21 through 23 Summary

In Chapter Twenty-one, Garrett and Emma go out. Garrett flounders when Emma says she wants him to choose where they eat and Emma suggests they buy the ingredients for a picnic. They go to Catalina State Park and set up their food. Emma uses the opportunity to fish for more information. She suggests that Charlotte has been acting strangely. Garrett says she should be more understanding, especially because he'd stopped seeing Charlotte in order to go out with Sutton. Garrett then says that Charlotte was "there for me during everything that happened with Louisa." Just then Emma hears the sound of a branch breaking. She and Garrett look toward the sound and Charlotte emerges from the hiking trail. Charlotte stops only for a brief conversation then walks away. Emma and Sutton each wonder if Charlotte could have been the killer.
